When Roman tribune Marcellus Gallio is sent to Jerusalem, one of his assignments is the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. Marcellus wins the robe Jesus wore to the crucifixion while gambling with other Roman soldiers underneath the dying savior. Convinced that his hallucinations and violent outbursts are the result of a curse from the robe, now in possession of his escaped slave Demetrius, Marcellus sets out to find him in the Middle East. Instead of destroying the robe, he finds faith and converts to Christianity.

Overall, “The Robe” offers a visually stunning portrayal of a Roman tribune’s journey to faith. While the script and acting may not be the strongest aspects of the film, the story of Marcellus’ conversion is inspiring for those interested in religious themes.
