The Volunteers [VHS] follows Lawrence, a wealthy young man with a troublesome accent and a significant debt. When his father refuses to bail him out, Lawrence flees from his angry creditors by hitching a ride on a Peace Corps plane headed to Southeast Asia. There, he teams up with all-American WSU graduate Tom Tuttle and the lovely and humble Beth Wexler to construct a bridge for the local villagers. Little do they know, the bridge is a coveted prize for the U.S. Army, a Communist group, and a dangerous drug lord.
