Radio Flyer and Understood.org: Making Outside Play More Accessible
During the summer months, outside play becomes a treasured pastime for families around the world. However, for families of neurodivergent children or kids with disabilities, activities that many take for granted can require extra planning and support. Recognizing this, renowned toy manufacturer Radio Flyer and child development and neurodiversity expert Understood.org have partnered to make outside play more accessible.
Radio Flyer’s Inclusive Toys: A Universal Design Approach
With the aim of creating inclusive play experiences, Radio Flyer has revised three of its popular products using universal design principles, a concept focused on designing products to be usable by all people to the greatest extent possible. This is done in consultation with Understood.org, leveraging their expertise in neurodiversity and child development. The goal is to better support kids with diverse needs while ensuring the toys remain fun and functional for all families.
Radio Flyer’s Updated Products: Designed for Inclusion
The revised lineup includes the Radio Flyer Cyclone, the Voya XT Quad Stroller Wagon, and the Coast Folding Stroller Trike. The Cyclone is designed for enhanced durability to withstand years of use. The Voya XT Quad Stroller Wagon offers flexible seating arrangements, which can be more comfortable for kids who experience sensory sensitivities. The Coast Folding Stroller Trike has been updated with ergonomic features, such as a firmer seat and an adjustable harness, to support kids who may tire more quickly during active play.
In addition to these product updates, the partnership also highlights Radio Flyer’s Fearless Flyers program, which offers qualifying families of kids with special needs a 25% discount on products.
Where to Find Radio Flyer’s Inclusive Toys
As families look for ways to get outside this summer, this collaboration aims to help more kids experience the joy of riding, exploring, and playing alongside their peers. The updated products are available through Radio Flyer and major retailers, including Target, Walmart, and Amazon.
